assalam alaikum

I was writing regarding Umm Zakiyyah, the sister who entered into a scholarship contest organized by Peterson (Petersonnelnet on YouTube).

I don’t know her, so I can’t endorse her or anything, but I decided to
help her, because 1- she wants to stay away from Riba 2- It’s a golden
opportunity for Dawah.

So, here is why it’s a good idea for you to help.

Three reasons you should adopt this campaign:

1- She presents a positive image for Muslims: a- go to school, b-
average Americans can relate to her (someone who speaks their language,
needs financial assistance for schooling, have multiple responsibilities as
a mother and a student c- got family values, cares for her kids).

2- Free Dawah through Petersonsnelnet. Usually organizers sends the
news all over the media, so imagine if a women with Hijab is the winner

3- Helping a Muslim to stay away from Riba (this is listed as number 3, because, arguably, we can simply raise $5000 to her, but if we adopt this project, it has more values than just donation)

The deadline is Aug 31, 2008, just in time for Ramadan, so it’s good to enter Ramadan with some good deeds, don’t you think so?

What can you do?

1- Set her video as your home page till Aug 31st.

2- If you have youtube channel, feature it like this: http://www.youtube.com/user/livinghalal

3- upload this info video to your channel

May Allah help you, because he promised to help you so long you help your fellow Muslim. In this case, you are helping me (cuz I’m asking you), and you are helping Umm Zakiyyah and her family.

Praying at work can be difficult for some. The lack of space, small cubicle, no cubicle but alhamdulilah, Muslims that pray at work have found a way to find-space albeit sometimes in strange places i.e parking lot, stairwell, and other places.

Seems like more and more companies are wiling to accommodate employees that need a space to pray.

Indeed,

And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). (At-Talaq 65:2)

Assalam alaikum

May the peace and tranquility be upon you.

This is a new business model we are trying.

On one hand we want to spread the message, on the other hand we need to sustain the effort.

So we are trying this mix model of both selling and sponsorship.

Our sister company HalalBucks.com is a for-profit company, but we at LivingHalal want to make their content available for free for Dawah purposes.

The agreement that we worked out is if we get the cost covered, plus a one time 10% profit (one time only) they will make the material available on the Internet (for free forever for this recording).

So, if you believe in this cause of eradicating interest/Riba and providing Halal alternatives. Buy this recording for $7 (59% discount over the original price of $17) or even give more as a sponsorship.

May Allah reward you for everyone who benefits from this material.

-LivingHalal

PS1: If you are not 100% satisfied, simply come and “unjoin” the campaign.

PS2: If you are satisfied, please post a comment so others can get a preview of what’s in the recording.

In Islam, our duty is to protect and preserve the earth. Islam teaches us to preserve, consume in moderation, plant trees, and clearn our environment.

In-sha-Allah, LivingHalal is working to compile a list of Quranic verses and hadiths that are related to eco-friendly practices. If you want to contribute to this list, post them as comments.

This is a nice podcast about environment and philanthropy. Tactical Philanthropy Podcast: Fred Krupp

Coffee

Recent studies have shown that drinking more coffee can lead to better health by reducing chances of heart disease, and thus, eventually, lead to a longer life. Especially in women, the studies showed up to a 25% lower chance of heart disease. Decaffeinated coffee has also produced similar results, which shows that the ingredient causing the health benefits may not necessarily be caffeine, if at all.

Does this mean we should go out and binge on our coffee drinking? Not really. In order to “live halal” we know that too much of anything could become a bad thing. Too much fat, sugar, or salt in one’s diet can be quite harmful. In fact, even too much water can be deadly. However, we can take advantage of the health benefits of anything we put into our bodies by balancing it with other foods, or control the amounts we take in.

The Prophet Muhammad (saw), advised us:

“There is no worse vessel for the son of Adam to fill than his stomach, but if he must fill it, then let him allow one-third for food, one-third for drink, and one-third for air.” -Authentic hadith in Sahih Al-Jame’

ما ملأ آدمي وعاء شرا من بطنه ، بحسب ابن آدم أكلات يقمن صلبه ، فإن كان لا محالة ، فثلث لطعامه ، و ثلث لشرابه ، و ثلث لنفسه

Allah provided us with several bounties on the earth in the form of a variety of foods which each bring about their own unique benefits. In this same way, coffee will also do our bodies more good than bad (God willing). However, we should make sure to reinstate the advice of our beloved Prophet (saw) by moderating our intakes to make our experience more enjoyable.
