Angry Not

By livinghalal • Jan 2nd, 2010 • Category: Featured, Life

Recently, LivingHalal coaches have participated in Stronger Than Ever: Emotional Strength Training.

One topic the training covered was dealing with emotions (anger/regret), which the following story presents in a touching way.

USED vs. LOVED

While a man was polishing his new car,
his 4 yr old son picked up a stone
and scratched lines on the side of the car.

In anger, the man took the child’s hand
and hit it many times not realizing
he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers
due to multiple fractures.

When the child saw his father…..
with painful eyes he asked, ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’
The man was so hurt and speechless;
he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times.

Devastated by his own actions….. .
sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches;
the child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.

Anger and Love have no limits;
choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely
life & remember this:
Things are to be used and people are to be loved.
The problem in today’s world is
that people are used while things are loved.

Let’s try always to keep this thought in mind:
Things are to be used,
People are to be loved.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character;
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

I’m glad a sweet person forwarded this to me as a reminder…
I hope you have a good day no matter what problems you may face
it’s the only day you’ll have before it’s over.

  1. “Things are to be used, People are to be loved.”

    Nicely put!

  2. subhan Allah…what a reminder…i liked it really…we are sooo much dependent and involved in our materialistic world that we really have reversed the whole situation, where we sincerely love things more than people(the beautiful creation of Allah, A creation that Allah loves more than the love equilvalent to 70 mothers) than why don’t we love them only to seek the pleasure of Allah, the owner of the universe and all that exist…
    May Allah save us from this materialism that we are addicted to and start loving people around and don’t keep any bad feeling about the person infront of us cause this was the main reason why dad lost his son’s finger in the above story.

  3. Jazakallahukhair, very nice reminder.

  4. jazakumulllahu khair..

    barakallahhu feek..

  5. please tell me it this stroy real….authenticity is important to have even while narating any story. is this a true story?

  6. @muslimah

    Doesn’t seem to be a real story. However, we do know a similar story narrated by a shaikh, it’s about anger, but no love involved.

  7. sorry for asking so many questions…but narrating a story where one is not sure to be true…does it not come under lying category because the things that are in doubt should be avoided and one should stick to the truth in every sense…not to say and forward stories where one is not 100% sure of its authenticity…either the intention is good or not or the ultimate result is good or not…but sticking to truth is really important in Islam apart from specific situations mentioned in Quran and Hadith….
    please kindly clarify my point.
    jazakum Allah khair

  8. To muslimah,

    Salam

    You are right about the importance of the authenticity of the narration from Hadith. However, the story given in this post, I believe, is just a story.

    A more important message delivered from the story is to remind us do not prioritize the “things” above “people” since “people” are more dear to us. After all, “things” can be replaced, but not “people”.

    It’s just my own personal opinion. Forgive me if I misinterpret your message.

    A kind reminder to the author: The site is rated G. Please do not include violent scenes.

  9. A nice reminder…..Jazakhallah.

  10. subhanallah. MasyaAllah. Barokallahu fiik

  11. “Watch your thoughts; they become words.
    Watch your words; they become actions.
    Watch your actions; they become habits.
    Watch your habits; they become character;
    Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

    Subhanallah, very powerful statements mashallah. I know that it’s something I need to implement into my life. May Allah guide us all. Ameen.

  12. mashall it s really nice

  13. I found the responses to the “story” more informative than the story itself. The details of the story were doubtful (was he polishing his car with that wrench?!), and therefore the entire article became doubtful for me. Surely it is not necessary to use fictional info in order to make what is good and right appear better. Truth does not require literary enhancement. If you must do so, it should be noted for your readers, lest you lead someone astray. Thank you.

  14. I should have added this to my comment: And do not mix up the truth with the falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know (it). 2:42
